Bangor Key Club held their annual election of officers recently. They continue their ongoing service projects, including a backpack program for needy students, and regular visits to guests at the Ross Manor nursing home.
Meanwhile, Hermon Key Club will host a lemonade stand at Danforth’s market in Hermon on June 2 in support of the fight against childhood cancer. It’ll be from 3 to 6 pm. They are also considering organizing a book drive in support of the Bangor Boys & Girls Club.
Coming Soon: our annual trek to Orono to support the Maine Special Olympics Summer Games. We’re needed on Friday, June 9 from approximately 12 noon to 3:30 pm. Support the kids and adults with disabilities and have loads of fun!
Tony Bernatche reports that fundraising for this year’s 4th of July Celebration will begin soon. In Club fundraising news, don’t forget to save this date: July 14, when we will be assisting with car parking for concert goers during the Rod Stewart concert on the Bangor Waterfront. Help will be needed beginning a 2:30 and well into the evening. More news soon!
In addition to our planned 2nd annual Chair-ity Auction scheduled for this fall, another possible fundraiser for our proposed playground project is under consideration. “Flags of Valor”, patterned after a similar, successful project by another club, involves inviting the public to purchase a flag in honor or in memory of a loved one or friend who has served in the military, to be put on public display. More news as it develops.
The Club Board of Directors met after our Thursday meeting and approved a motion to donate $600 to Bangor Parks & Recreation for their children’s summer programs. The Board also decided to re-schedule the Club’s monthly Strategic Planning meetings from Thursday evening to Thursday morning following our breakfast meeting, in an effort to allow more participation. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 15.
Our “guest” speaker on Thursday was member Gabe Kingsbury who provided a demo of Portal Buzz, the new website and online club organization platform to which we will move shortly. In addition to providing the infrastructure on which we will build our club website, Portal Buzz also offers numerous behind the scenes features including email, a members-only area including a private membership roster, Club newsletter and membership development and tracking applications. Stay tuned for the new look, and many useful features the entire club can use
